About

Dr. Elise Machline is an environmental policy researcher whose work focuses on the intersection of climate resilience, sustainable development, environmental justice, and social equity. Her research explores how environmental and urban policies shape communities, with a particular focus on housing, energy poverty, and the social dimensions of sustainability.

Originally from the Loire Valley in France, Elise grew up surrounded by agricultural landscapes that fostered an early interest in the relationship between people, place, and the environment. She later moved to the Negev, where the desert’s ecological and social complexities became central to her academic and professional work.

Elise holds a joint PhD from Sorbonne University and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Her doctoral research examined the social and economic impacts of green building and sustainable urban development, with particular attention to how environmental initiatives can unintentionally contribute to inequality and displacement.

Her work investigates the connections between climate policy, urban development, and social inclusion, advocating for approaches that integrate environmental sustainability with accessibility, affordability, and community wellbeing. Through her research and public engagement, Elise contributes to conversations around equitable climate adaptation and sustainable development in Israel and the broader region.
