Kedem

Dr. Rina Kedem is an environmental researcher and practitioner whose work focuses on the intersection of environmental governance, peacebuilding, and conflict-sensitive international development. She examines how shared natural resources can serve as a foundation for sustainable development and regional engagement in politically complex settings.

For more than two decades, Rina has designed and led cross-border initiatives involving Israeli, Palestinian, and Jordanian partners, working with governments, local authorities, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and local communities to address shared environmental challenges.

Her work spans climate adaptation, food security, transboundary natural resource management, and environmental policy, with particular expertise in marine conservation and governance in the Gulf of Aqaba, as well as the rehabilitation of the Jordan River and Dead Sea. She also explores environmental mediation, climate security, social-environmental entrepreneurship, participatory leadership, and the relationship between scientific knowledge and environmental policymaking.

At the Arava Institute, Rina develops interdisciplinary projects that connect science, policy, and practice to support informed decision-making and sustainable environmental management. Through her work, she advances practical approaches to addressing complex regional environmental challenges while strengthening long-term environmental stewardship.
